Collaboration Café 
Purpose
The purpose of the graded Collaboration Café is to engage students with their peers in an interactive dialogue to organize, integrate, apply, and critically appraise knowledge for nurse practitioner (NP) practice. Meaningful dialogue fosters the development of a learning community as ideas, perspectives, and knowledge are shared. This Collaboration Café supports the professional formation of the nurse practitioner role. 
Course Outcomes
This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes: 

CO 1: Examine leadership competencies and underpinnings essential for advanced nursing practice. (POs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
CO 2: Evaluate factors that influence healthcare delivery across diverse settings. (POs 1, 5)
CO 3: Appraise health policy and advocacy at all levels of the healthcare system. (POs 4, 5)
CO 4: Apply advocacy for the development of health policy to advance healthcare outcomes and equity. (PO 5)
CO 5: Develop professional competencies to lead in diverse healthcare settings. (POs 2, 3, 4, 5)

Preparing the Collaboration Café 
Follow these guidelines when completing each component of the Collaboration Café. Contact your course faculty if you have questions. 
General instructions:
Research healthcare issues that have been identified in your local community. Select one problem for which you will complete a healthcare policy analysis. 
Include the following sections: 

Application of Course Knowledge: Answer all questions/criteria with explanations and detail.

 

Identify and define the local problem you will address in your analysis.
Include background information about the problem.
Describe why the topic is important.
Explain why the topic needs to be addressed now.

*Note: Peer responses should provide options for addressing healthcare problems identified by peers.  

Engagement in Meaningful Dialogue: Engage peers by asking questions, and offering new insights, applications, perspectives, information, or implications for practice:

 

Communicate using respectful, collegial language and terminology appropriate to advanced nursing practice.

Professionalism in Communication: Communicate with minimal errors in English grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation.
