1a. As I reflect on my learning experience in NR 585, several concepts made a lasting impact on me. One of the most important concepts was understanding the role of research and evidence-based practice in improving patient outcomes. Learning how to evaluate research articles, identify levels of evidence, and apply findings to clinical practice helped me recognize the importance of using current evidence when making healthcare decisions. Another concept that stood out was the history of research ethics and the importance of protecting human subjects. Understanding past ethical failures reinforced the responsibility nurses have to advocate for patient safety, informed consent, and ethical research practices.
1b. As a future master’s-prepared Nurse Practitioner, I plan to use these concepts by incorporating evidence-based interventions into patient care and staying current with new research throughout my career. In my future practice, I want to provide high-quality care that is supported by the best available evidence while promoting patient safety and positive health outcomes. These skills will also help me critically evaluate new treatments, clinical guidelines, and healthcare innovations before applying them to practice.
The learning activities and assignments in this course will help me achieve Program Outcome 4: Integrate professional values through scholarship and service in health care. Through literature reviews, article critiques, and evidence-based practice assignments, I learned how to locate, evaluate, and apply research findings to clinical problems. These experiences strengthened my commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth. They also emphasized the importance of using scholarship to improve patient care, support quality improvement initiatives, and contribute to positive changes within healthcare organizations.
1c. One AACN Essentials sub-competency that was strongly supported throughout this course was 4.1j: Discern appropriate applications of quality improvement, research, and evaluation methodologies. Many course assignments required me to analyze research studies, compare methodologies, and evaluate the strength of evidence. These activities improved my ability to determine which research findings are most appropriate for clinical practice and quality improvement efforts. As a future nurse practitioner, this competency will help me make informed clinical decisions, participate in evidence-based quality improvement projects, and contribute to better patient outcomes. Overall, this course has strengthened my confidence in using research and scholarship to guide advanced nursing practice and improve healthcare delivery.

Hello Class,
One of the concepts that had the greatest impact on my learning throughout this course was evidence-based practice (EBP) and the importance of critically appraising research before implementing changes in practice. Learning to evaluate quantitative, qualitative, and synthesis studies increased my understanding of how high-quality evidence improves patient outcomes. Developing a PICOT question and conducting literature reviews reinforced the process of translating research findings into clinical practice. As a future masterâ€s-prepared nurse practitioner, I plan to use these concepts to support clinical decision-making, implement evidence-based interventions, and continuously evaluate outcomes to provide safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2023).
The course learning activities and assignments supported Program Outcome 4: Integrate professional values through scholarship and service in health care. Assignments such as developing a PICOT question, critically appraising research articles, evaluating clinical practice guidelines, and creating an evidence-based practice change project strengthened my ability to apply scholarly evidence to clinical problems. These activities emphasized accountability, lifelong learning, and a commitment to improving healthcare outcomes. Furthermore, they demonstrated the relationship between scholarship and service, as evidence-based interventions ultimately contribute to enhanced quality of care and improved patient outcomes.
One advanced-level nursing education competency addressed in this course was AACN Essentials Competency 4.1j: Discern appropriate applications of quality improvement, research, and evaluation methodologies (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2021). Through assignments involving critical appraisal of research studies, literature synthesis, and the development of an evidence-based practice project, I learned to distinguish among various research methodologies and determine their applicability to clinical practice. Understanding the strengths and limitations of different study designs enhanced my ability to evaluate evidence and implement quality improvement initiatives effectively. As a future nurse practitioner, I will use these skills to promote evidence-based care, assess outcomes, and contribute to ongoing improvements in healthcare delivery.
Overall, this course strengthened my appreciation for nursing scholarship and reinforced the importance of integrating research and quality improvement into advanced nursing practice. The knowledge and skills gained will support my future role as a masterâ€s-prepared nurse practitioner committed to providing evidence-based, patient-centered care and advancing the nursing profession.
