Getting Started
The model behind short drama apps is simple. What you watch are tiny vertical episodes. You get the first few for free. Later ones cost coins or a pass. Most confusion stems from that split. Begin with these five answers.
What is a short drama app, exactly?
It is an app that streams vertical video made for phones. A series is broken into many tiny episodes. Plots tend to favor billionaires, revenge and hidden-identity reveals. Werewolf reelshort actors romances are well liked too. The leaders are ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama. The format began in China as duanju.
How long does an episode last?
Most come in at one to two minutes. 60 to 100 seconds is a common target for Western shoots. A series typically spans 20 to 100 episodes. For Married at First Sight, ReelShort lists 90. Its hit Double Life series lists 60. A full series can match a movie in length.
Why do episodes stop at cliffhangers?
That is usually the point where free episodes end. ReelShort says its first 5 to 15 episodes are usually free. Industry reports cite 8 to 10. Peak tension is where the lock tends to land. That timing is exactly the business model. It is also a leading viewer complaint.
Who are the owners of ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?
Crazy Maple Studio in Sunnyvale, California owns ReelShort. China’s COL Group is the backer of that studio. Singapore’s StoryMatrix, part of Beijing Dianzhong Technology, runs DramaBox. Making My Drama is Holywater, founded in Kyiv in 2020. An equity stake went to Fox Entertainment in October 2025. ReelShort launched in 2022, and DramaBox in 2023.
Is it possible to watch in a browser or on TV?
Yes, with limits. My Drama offers an Apple TV app. We did not find a verified ReelShort TV app. ReelShort’s website offers Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok and email logins. Progress syncs with the app. Only the app handles free unlocks.
Cost
Questions about money come up most often. The figures shown are US App Store prices as of September 2026. Country, platform and promotion all change them. Every number should be treated as approximate. Before anything else, always check the price screen. Here is what listings show.
Is ReelShort free to use?
Partly, and the free portion is real. The catch is what people searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” want. Downloading costs nothing. The opening episodes are free. Later ones require coins or a VIP pass. Free coins come from ads and check-ins.
How does the coin system work?
The currency that unlocks episodes is coins. According to ReelShort’s blog, an episode costs about 60 coins. Its smallest pack offers 500 coins for about $4.99. Bonus coins come with bigger packs. A 7-day check-in streak earns 100+ coins. Watching one rewarded ad unlocks two episodes.
Do the coins expire?
It varies by the app. Free reward coins usually expire, says ReelShort. Coins you paid for do not run out. My Drama takes a different approach. Its terms forfeit coins after 12 months of inactivity. Use reward coins first, and stay active.
How much does a weekly pass cost?
In the US, the common price is roughly $19.99 a week. It is listed by ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama. A few apps show cheaper plans. ShortMax shows a $9.99 tier, and GoodShort’s pricing starts around $5.99. Each of these passes renews automatically. Forget for four weeks and you pay four times as much.
Are there monthly or yearly plans?
They exist on some apps. ReelShort’s blog lists a yearly plan at around $199.99. Its monthly price is not the same on every page. That figure is therefore unconfirmed. DramaWave’s listing shows roughly $36.99 a month. In the US, ShortMax shows only weekly passes.
Can I watch without paying anything?
Yes, as long as you are patient. Each series’ free opening episodes are the place to start. Rewarded ads open up more. Don’t break your daily check-in streak. On top of that, ReelShort runs official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels. You get the most by combining all four.
Subscriptions and Cancelling
Weekly passes keep renewing until you stop them. That comes as a surprise to plenty of people. Once you know where, cancelling is fast. How you paid determines where you cancel. Stores cancel store purchases. Each company handles purchases made on its website.
Does deleting the app cancel my subscription?
No, and plenty of people make this mistake. Apple makes clear that removing an app does not end its subscription. Google says the same thing about uninstalling. My Drama’s terms repeat that warning. Until you cancel, the pass renews. Cancel first, then delete.
How do I cancel on an iPhone?
Begin by opening the Settings app. Tap your name at the top. Choose Subscriptions next. Pick the drama app. Tap Cancel, then confirm. Do it a day before renewal to be safe.
How can I cancel on Android?
Open the Google Play Store app. Then go to your Subscriptions list. Select the drama app there. Tap Cancel and work through the prompts. Do not forget that uninstalling cancels nothing. Look at the list again to confirm the change.
Is it possible to cancel inside the app?
Sometimes, but cancelling through the store is safer. ShortMax’s terms point to an in-app option under About Subscription. Store buyers are directed to App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google can only control what they billed. If you bought on the website, contact the company. Save a screenshot of every cancellation.
Why did I get charged after a free trial?
Trial wording can confuse. ShortMax’s “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels confused people, its developer admits. Under its terms, passes renew 24 hours before expiry. The renewal is charged at the same price. Cancel a day before any trial ends. Then check that the store shows it as cancelled.
Refunds
How refunds work depends on who took your money. Google deals with Play charges. Apple deals with App Store charges. Website charges go through the companies. A refund is not guaranteed by any route. This table shows every path.

How do I get a refund from Apple?
Head to Apple’s Report a Problem page. Use the billed Apple ID to sign in. Pick the charge and describe the problem in a few words. Apple’s reply usually arrives within 24 to 48 hours. Apple, not the app maker, makes the call. Remember to cancel the pass too, or it will renew.
How do refunds from Google Play work?
What matters most here is timing. Within 48 hours of buying, Google says you may get a refund. Request it via Google Play directly. After that window, reach out to the developer. ReelShort users are pointed to Profile, then Feedback. Move fast when a renewal catches you by surprise.
What about buying on the website?
Those purchases go through the app company. Neither Apple nor Google can help there. My Drama’s terms label web purchases non-refundable except where law requires. Its terms grant EU and UK users a 14-day withdrawal right. Other companies set their rules for themselves. Check the terms before paying online.
Is it possible to refund unused coins?
Usually not, and that is in the terms. My Drama’s terms call coin purchases final. ShortMax will not refund unless its own fault makes a product unusable. With accidental purchases, a store request may help. Stick to the smallest coin pack until a series grabs you. Then mistakes cost you less.
Safety and Look-Alike Apps
Confusion over names is everywhere here. Small unrelated apps turn up after misspellings. Certain sites copy big brands. A few downloads pose a risk. Sticking to real names protects your money. The answers below sort real from fake.
Is Real Short a real app?
No, not that we could find. Real Short is simply ReelShort misspelled. Other variants include “real short app”, “realshot”, “reel shot” and likely “shot shorts”. The real name comes as a single word. On the App Store, its seller is New Leaf Publishing. Before downloading, check that.
What exactly are ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV?
All three are small, unrelated apps. ReelBox, found via “reel box” or “reelbox tv”, has 50K+ Android installs. It has nothing to do with ReelShort or DramaBox. DailyShort, often typed “daily short”, has 100K+ installs. GoldShort TV is an Android TV app that has 10K+ installs. Most searchers probably mean GoodShort.
Are ShortTV and ShortMax the same app?
Very likely, although it is unconfirmed. The legal entity behind ShortMax is SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong. Its website forwards to ShortTV’s site. Both went live in September 2023. We saw no official rename announcement. A search for “short tv” or “short max” also brings up unrelated apps.
Is it safe to use mod APKs and coin generators?
No, and not a single one is official. Mod APKs are modified app copies from outside official stores. One DramaBox look-alike calls its download an unofficial modified version. Coin generators are not official either. You cannot verify what they actually do. Use official stores and websites and nothing else.
Why does ReelShort have a low rating on Trustpilot?
ReelShort’s Trustpilot page shows 1.3 out of 5 from 250 reviews. Being charged after cancelling is a frequent complaint. Complaints about weekly auto-renewals come up often. Others complain about coin prices and denied refunds. Any review site reflects the people who chose to post. Treat it as a list of things to check rather than a verdict.
